|
|
eee-sources is based on the current gentoo-sources with atl2 ethernet driver support for those with an Asus eeePC.
I created an ebuild and setup a page with instructions on how to install this kernel. I hope to add more hardware as it becomes native, such as the wireless driver.
You can get to the eee-sources homepage here: http://eee.theretrogamer.net/
Please let me know what you guys think!
Thanks,
Carl

Moved from Kernel & Hardware to Unsupported Software. If you don't get the url fixed, we will have to move this thread to the dustbin. _________________ "I'm just very selective about the reality I choose to accept." -- Calvin |

I found GeeeNTOO with ebuilds for eee-sources here: http://www.geeentoo.com/news.html. _________________ Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.

Don't bother; zen-sources 2.6.25 and the next snapshot from the eeepc branch on the current zen tree both have the atl2 driver, as well as the eeepc ACPI driver and the asus-laptop patches.
Edit: eeepc has been pushed to zen master. atl2 works, and so does eee (the ACPI driver). The asus-acpi patch is not clean, so it's not in there, and the madwifi patch is not in because ath5k apparently works with those cards. _________________ Don't believe the "n00b" under my name. |

Thanks MostAwesomeDude, worth a Wiki mention?
Code: | ath5k apparently works with those cards. | Hmm, prefer the madwifi-ng drivers, and I'm also experiencing the same between the new iwl3945 and the ipw3945. The changes in the 2.6.25 are not all good.
Hate to see the resource in the bin. |

I suppose if it works for you guys, it could go on the wiki.
Unfortunately, we're not planning on pulling madwifi into zen at the moment, so we can't provide that. I think there's still ebuilds for it.
Of course, I'm a guy who likes iwl3945, so maybe it's just me. _________________ Don't believe the "n00b" under my name. |

I've tried ath5k from the 2.6.25 kernel and haven't been able to get it to work. This is already mentioned on the Eee PC wiki article |

ATM I can't see me using the new ieee stack I need the facilities available from the current drivers for wireless pentesting etc. Hopefully as time progress this situation will improve. |

I'm now trying to get Gentoo installed on an external usb drive to use with the eee, experiencing some difficulty with using uuid. I need to use uuid because the blockdevices move so much when other devices are attached. e.g. with a SD card inserted (/dev/sdc) the usb drive is detected as /dev/sdd. For grub purposes everything works fine, splash screen works etc and booting commences but I get an error regarding blockid not bing identified whatever.
Code: | >>Determining root device...
/init: /init: 453: blkid: not found
!!Could not find the root block device in UUID=f3ca17e1-8c49-44b6-92f8-0b31bdd73c11.
Please speciify another value or: press Enter for the same, type "shell" for a shell, or "q" to skip... |
I can manually enter /dev/sdd3 for my root partition and booting resumes.
Ubuntu works fine with UUID in grub and /etc/fstab off a usb thumb drive, Any trouble shooting advice here would greatly be appreciated.
Interestingly specifying /dev/sdd3 in grub/conf results in the same error and again I can resume after manually supplying /dev/sdd3 |

You won't believe what the answer is.
Add "rootwait" and "rootdelay=10" on the kernel line at grub.conf.
This is my grub.conf:
title Gentoo Linux 2.6.25-r7
root (hd1,0)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/sdb1 rootwait rootdelay=10
initrd /usr/share/v86d/initramfs
I also boot from the SD card.
Tell me if it works. _________________ --
