look at the following output of emerge:
Quote: |
!!! All ebuilds that could satisfy "kde-base/kalgebra" have been masked.
!!! One of the following masked packages is required to complete your request:
- kde-base/kalgebra-4.0.3 (masked by: package.mask, ~amd64 keyword)
/usr/portage/profiles/package.mask:
# Ingmar Vanhassel <ingmar@gentoo.org> (16 Jan 2008)
# Mask KDE 4.0.x for testing. This release of KDE 4 will not be unmasked.
# This is still not intended for mainstream so DO NOT KEYWORD IT without
# talking to the KDE herd first.
# KDE 4 guide: http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/desktop/kde/kde4.xml
- kde-base/kalgebra-4.0.2 (masked by: package.mask, ~amd64 keyword)
For more information, see MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge man page or
refer to the Gentoo Handbook.

when i unmask "kde-base/kalgebra-4.0.3" by adding some lines in /etc/portage/package.unmask or /etc/portage/package.keywords/common, portage tells me that for example some other packages like "x11-libs/qt-qt3support-4.4.0_beta1" are also masked. what is going on? some days ago i emerged kdm, i think all this has something to do with it. can someone help me out? i still want to use kde 3.x, but be able to compile kalgebra. |

If you don't want kde4, you shouldn't install any of the kde4 packages. Thake all the kde4 lines out of portage.unmask, unmerge all kde4 packages (hint - use eix maybe?), then make sure everything's good - revdep-rebuild for example.
Call us back when you actually want kalgebra again _________________ iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAA

well, can you tell me how i find all kde4 packages which are installed on my system?
edit: i'm not 100% sure, but it seems like kalgebra itself is based on kde4 libs? that would be sad :( |

May need to weed through it a bit, but eix -I --slot kde-4
Indeed, it looks like kalgebra is kde4-exclusive. Try out kplot for kde3.... _________________ iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAA
