The senario:
One of the guys here I converted to Linux uses his PC at home and work, but not the same monitor, so immediately you get the picture.
He either has to use windows at work or change his xf86config file every time he uses another monitor.
Seeing he is not really into changing files every single day, he uses Windows still, for work purposes.
Now, the quiestion, is there an easier way to configure his system every time he changes a monitor?
If it was me I would have made a double entry in xf86config and hashed out the setting I would like to use, but this guy isn't a n00b, he's a green n00b!
I don't know of any other way to help him, is there another way he could tackle this problem?

how different are those monitors? I mean i have a bunch of monitors and i can swap them around and still get a "decent" picture. I mess with xf86config if i want a really nice and sharp one. _________________ >>>>> Ignorance is bliss <<<<< |

According to this freind of mine, verry!
If he configures his PC at home and use the PC at work with the other monitor, then he gets absolutely no picture at all, just a distorted screen. _________________ "Ubuntu" - an African word meaning "Gentoo is too hard for me". |

This is a really low tech solution but what your freind could do is set up x86 files for each monitor and then on every boot your freind would just have to change the name of the x86config file.
I am sure there is abetter way, (maybe a line that could be thrown in startx or something). |
