depends , if you have a mp3 compatible cd player you can burn them straight to cd , otherwise youll have to convert them to wav format for most standard cd players to read them .....

Cheers
Dale.

i do it by making a playlist in xmms of the songs i want, then going to settings and using disk writer and the output. then i use gcombust to burn the cd by running it and telling it where the wav files xmms wrote are. you have to play all the songs in xmms to make them write as wav files. you also have to config disk writer to where you want your wav files to be written, for me /tmp/nameofcd/. hope this helps. Also you need cdrtools, gcombust and thats it realy. hope this helps.

You might want to have a look at 'arson'. It's has the advantage of normalizing tracks before doing the burn. That's handy if you're putting together a compilation CD and you don't want the volume to change depending on how the song was encoded. Also I found that some software produced CD's that won't play in my CD player (K3b) where as arson has been good every time.

arson rules.

Windows Media Player would throw up when it came across a non standard decoded file - "Can't record this song" - Arson uses sox, fixes the song, and goes along its merry way.

I'm pretty sure that xcdroast will decompress and burn mp3--->wave on cd on the fly. Don't quote me on that though.

Also, this IS just a frontend, so the programs that do the actual work are obviously required. A full list of these programs can be found in the Programs tab of the configuration dialog.
Would anyone care to post that information? The site mentioned some, such as cdda2wav and cdparanoia.

Anyone tried rhythmbox yet? Its supposed to be like iTunes i hear. (... anybody used iTunes yet :p). I think it might be gtk2 only though.

Having used neither of the above, Im not sure how useful they would be. It appears to catalog, play, sort, and assist in making audio cds (basically says the homepage).

But dont listen to me, I havent even bothered getting my burner to work..

i am trying to use the command line to write audio files to a cd using cdrdao. however, i get the following error message:
Code:

bash-2.05a# cdrdao write --device 0,0,0 --driver generic-mmc cd.toc

Check http://cdrdao.sourceforge.net/drives.html#dt for current driver tables.

Using libscg version 'schily-0.5'

Here's my little custom script for burning ogg & mp3's to audio cd :
Code:
#!/bin/sh
SPEED=16
DEVICE=0,2,0
DRIVEROPTS=burnproof

if [ "$1" = "mp3" ]
then
   echo "Converting mp3 to wav files"
   for f in *.mp3; do
       mpg123 -r 44100 --stereo -w "$f.wav" "$f"
   done
elif [ "$1" = "ogg" ]
then
   echo "Converting ogg to wav files"
   for f in *.ogg; do
      ogg123 -d wav -f "$f.wav" "$f"
   done
fi

echo "Normalizing tracks"
if [ -x /usr/bin/normalize ]
then
   normalize -bv *.wav
fi

echo "Writing audio cd"
cdrecord speed=$SPEED dev=$DEVICE driveropts=$DRIVEROPTS -v -eject -pad -audio -dao *.wav
rm -f *.mp3.wav

Replace SPEED, DEVICE, DRIVEROPTS with your setup and save it as /usr/local/bin/music2cd, and then chmod +x /usr/local/bin/music2cd to make it executable.
Then put all your files on a dir (make sure u have write acces on that dir), and inside that dir simply run :
Code:
# music2cd mp3
or
# music2cd ogg

And u' re done.
p.s. : Also emerge normalize so that all tracks have the same volume (good for collection from different sources...)

.:: zen ::.

if you want to burn mp3's to create and audio cd you can use burncdda. just add the mp3's you want to a playlist (using xmms or something) and then using burncdda, simply specify the source as the playlist and it will burn the audio cd

pretty decent app :D

# emerge k3b

The programs I have to use with arson are.. cdrecord, cdrdao, mkisofs, mpg321, ogg123, cdda2wav, cdparanoia, bladeenc, lame, oggenc, readcd, md5sum and normalize. I use arson for all of my music ripping, iso, cue, vcd, and music burning. It's an excellent app in my opinion, even if it is just a front end.
