This forums thread is for discussion of the www.gentoo.org posting, "New foundation trustees elected." Post your comments and suggestions here.

Quote:
New trustees for the Gentoo Foundation were just elected. The foundation takes care of Gentoo's intellectual property (copyrights, trademarks) and money. It ensures that nobody violates our copyrights and trademarks, serves as a place to hold money, and decides where to devote that money in the best interests of Gentoo.

Developers have been voting to elect 5 new trustees for the last couple of weeks, and the developers they elected are:

  • Roy Bamford (neddyseagoon)
  • Ferris McCormick (fmccor)
  • Joshua Jackson (tsunam)
  • Tom Gall (tgall)
  • William Thomson (wltjr)

The agenda for the first meeting includes discussion of incorporation, the bylaws and future plans. The meeting will be 1900 UTC Sunday, March 16 in #gentoo-trustees on irc.freenode.net, and it is open for all to attend.

Congratulations to the new trustees!

Trying to access the Gentoo Foundation page however gives me a 403 error. ;-)

The foundation link should be:

http://www.gentoo.org/foundation/en/

I've committed a fix for it, so it should make it to the front page shortly.

I would like to thank the election officials for overseeing the election and I look forward to working with my fellow trustees, implementing the things in our election manifestos.

While I'm writing, I would like to remind everyone that the Gentoo Foundation has as one of its declared aims to further the best interests of Gentoo. Thats the entire Gentoo community, not just developers. That means that everyone has a part to play in the Foundation too

Glad to see how Gentoo is once more working towards progress, now, Gentoo is starting to have a vision, lets hope it all does not fade away easily and that Gentoo may build their future on a strong base now.

We all hold a piece of the Gentoo 'vision'. The Council and the Foundation can only provide focus so that the vision is clear to everyone.
Its your Gentoo as much as anyone elses. When even one piece of the vision is lost, Gentoo is poorer for it.

Both the Council and the Foundation need the communities continuing support.

Nice perspective, if we all thought the same, it would make things better.

Thanks to all for the kind words. As Kensai says, we intend to "work toward progress" and build for the future. It has already been mentioned, I think, but Trustees meetings are open and held on IRC #gentoo-trustees (freenode). The first is Sun., 16 March at 1900UTC and we encourage all to attend.

Regards,

I'm glad things are progressing at Gentoo - the best distro available. My entire company
is built around Gentoo servers and clients (3 offices, 6 people), so this is a relief.
