I've emerged Blender on my laptop and everytime I try to run it that's what the terminal shows
# blender
GLUT: Fatal Error in blender: OpenGL GLX extension not supported by display: :0.0
Is it due to X acceleration is not supported on my laptop ?
Must I install some mesa version ?
Help please![/quote] |

I'm actually getting the same error on my laptop, and haven't been able to find any information on this error on the net (Google, Blender site/forums, etc). You're the first person I know of that has the same issue as me.
Hopefully someone knows what's up!

this might sound crazy, but ive noticed when i try to run things from a terminal i get that error as well, whether it is blender, openoffice, xchat, etc, etc..
try just running it from a run dialog in kde or gnome assuming you have those.
lemme know if my invaluable suggestion seems valuable _________________ .. ...kemical. ... .. .. |

This is to do with
Load "glx"
in the Section "Module"
You have to have an accellerated card or something though I think. I only know for nvidia drivers I enable it. Maybe mesa or something has a glx module - in fact, they probably do. So it all depends on your graphics card, but you need that line in the /etc/X11/XF86config file
Hope that helps. |

Don't forget to run opengl-update as well to select the opengl implemendion you want (currently nvidia or xfree). _________________ There's someone in my head but it's not me - Pink Floyd |

Well, happy ending to this topic. It works for me too; I've changed my XF86config file as tyreth wrote and updated opengl for xfree as mksoft suggested. Thank you all a thousand times, and don't forget to support the blender foundation to help on gpl-ing blender's sources. |
