For those who are new to Open-Office on Linux
UPDATED FOR OOO 2.4!
as root ...
# nano -w /usr/lib/openoffice/program/sofficerc
| Code: | [Bootstrap]
HideEula=1
Logo=0
ProgressBarColor=0,0,128
ProgressPosition=-1,-1
ProgressSize=-1,6 |

why not edit the sofficerc file already /usr/lib... ?

Because openoffice-2.3.1 now looks to /etc/openoffice for bootstrap splash instructions /usr/lib/... is ignored.
