i just installed compiz-fusion but spent quite some time figuring out why it wasnt working. it turns out, the compiz-start script was pretty messed up, at least in my case.
i was getting no window decorations and nothing seemed to be working even after trying everything from the wiki (like emerald --replace). i started looking into the script and finally realized what was going on, the script starts gconf for whatever reason instead of the compizconfig settings manager. the very last line of script had compiz $COMPIZ_OPTIONS gconf...
i replaced gconf with ccp and poof! all the crazy effects kicked in!
however, the problem was not completely over. the gnome window decorator was still being used instead of emerald. i tried putting emerald --replace in the windows decorator in ccsm but that didnt help. i went back to the script and sure enough the gnome windows decorator was being used. towards the bottom of the script in the if statement i replaced gnome-window-decorator with emerald and everything is now working great.
my question is why is this set up like this? shouldnt the compiz-start script already have all this set so that it actually uses compiz-fusion? am i missing something here? |

I totally agree, ever since I use compiz I have my own modified compiz-start in ~/bin, so it will not be overwritten by portage.
I had to add ccp and --sm-disable to COMPIZ_OPTIONS to make it work. |
