Hi, I'm trying to keep a GNOME1/2-only system as streamlined as possible and can't get Ogle to work properly. It seems to be failing on the audio part and the odd thing is that I think it's looking for alsa while I don't have that installed. All my other sound/video programs seems to be using ESD for sound without a problem. Here's what I get when I try to run a DVD in Ogle:

How would I go about setting Ogle up for ESD (in /usr/share/ogle/oglerc ?). I have a Dell Inspiron 8000 with an ESSMaestro3 sound card compiled into the kernel with the ESSMaestro3 driver (no alsa or OSS or anything...). I edited /etc/make.conf to have the esd and -alsa flags, but that didn't seem to make a difference.

well, I would think that you need either oss or alsa to get things working, if you say that you have compiled in support for your soundcard in the kernel you probably have oss activateded. When playing divX and outputing the audio using esd I get extreme desync so I wouldnt recommend it. Im sorry but I cant help you with your problem since Ive never used ogle myself. Maybe you should give xine a try. I cant recommend mplayer since it dosnt seem very complete although it plays video fine.

I think you're right. I installed Xine and it seems to be using OSS, however I still can't get Ogle to work and I would prefer to use that program. I didn't have any problems with it on a KDE3 w/ artsd system, but I'd prefer not to install artsd and can't seem to be able to get Ogle to recognize an audio device. I even manually edited oglerc to include /dev/dsp , but did not have any luck. Does anyone have Ogle working with OSS properly? If so, what does the ... section of your oglerc look like?
