One of my stupid cats, "Coco da Rat", decided that the top of my sons computer was his new lounge, That was the location of my router. Its now standing on its face leaning against the computer. It worked fine till yesterday when the cat5 connection to my switch became mechcanically unhappy. After plugging it in and wiggling it some more it made a good connection again.

FREE cats good <if thats not contradiction> selection. Ive got 2 more abandoned fuzz tailed rats trying to move in now. SIGH

maybe i'm missing something, but emwrap seems to not work anymore.

after calling "sh ~/emwrap.sh -S" i get the following output:

I guess emwrap can't parse the output of emerge anymore.
Is there an update to emwrap?

UPDATE:
It seems that emwrap does not work in the case of circular dependencies. (In this case with java.)
That is, because emwrap parses the list of circular depentencies and uses them as the list of packages to install, wich of course does not work.
As a temporary workaround remove the circuar dependencies before calling emwrap.

emwrap borks out on my toolchain rebuilds as well, failing on switching gcc compilers... Dunno if I'm using an old version, but it would really help if we had an inofficial ebuild for overlaying. 8)

Stumbled upon this, seems like it could solve several problems I'm having with emerge. Much appreciation to hielvc and everyone else who's helped out :)

Unfortunately, I'm having some issues: I copied/pasted, but i'm getting "emwrap.sh: line 799: syntax error: unexpected end of file."

looked through the thread for previous posts about similar problems, but none of the solutions worked for me... and the direct download links are down. I couldn't find an alternate download for the current version (4.0.8 with gcc-config-r4)... anyone have any ideas? If you have a working copy and could e-mail it to me, I'd very much appreciate it ( mystic * pixel {a} gmail * com, s/*/. )

BTW: I saw the discussion of sourceforge earlier in the thread, and I agree it's overkill, but in the interest of having a more accessable link, could I suggest creating a project on Google Code? http://code.google.com/hosting/ I don't know much about it; just throwing it out there.

The handling of the "failed" file looks completely broken. I tried everything I could think of (hitting the "f" key several times, typing - as the documentation inside the script indicates "emwrap failed", and several other things), but none of them worked. I ended up just doing it manually.

Ill be home this weekend I'll try to sort this out. If you all could post " emwrap.sh -V " and your portage version. curmudgeon when you ran emerge did you have circular dependencies?

Hi,

I've noticed a feature when upgrading GCC on my system.

It could be because I've not updated it for months, but the following code doesn't work for me:

Code:
function gcc_config(){
        # The eselect added 7-7-06 A varition of mcquires gcc-config
        if [ "$tc" != "no" ] ; then
                if echo "$1" | grep "gcc-[0-9].*" ; then
                # Adding maguire's gcc_config  setup here
                        gcc_current=""
                        gcc_new_version_number=""
                        gcc_for_gcc_config=""
                        gcc_current_no_dot=""
                        gcc_version_number_no_dot=""
                ###############################################################
                # Let games begin
                ###############################################################
                        #10-14-07 switched to CHOST usage so that i686, x86_64 and whaterver else are picked up.
                        #10-15-07 added test for "config" or "config-"${CHOST}"
                        if [[ -e "/etc/env.d/gcc/config" ]] ;then
                                gcc_current=$(sed 's/^.*\([0-9]\.[0-9]\.[0-9]\)/\1/' /etc/env.d/gcc/config)
                        elif [ -e "/etc/env.d/gcc/config-"${CHOST}"" ] ; then
                                gcc_current=$(sed 's/^.*\([0-9]\.[0-9]\.[0-9]\)/\1/' /etc/env.d/gcc/config-"${CHOST}")
                        fi
                        # $1 is the "gcc-version" that the function build-count, passes to function gcc_config
                        gcc_new_version_number=$( echo "$1" |sed 's/^.*\([0-9]\.[0-9]\.[0-9]\).*/\1/')
                        ## echo "${gcc_new_version_number} TEST TEST TesT CHOST"
                        # For selecting the highest version gcc
                        if echo "$1" | grep -Eq "gcc-[0-9].*" ; then
                                # stripping out the dots 4.1.1 ==> 411
                                gcc_current_no_dot=$(echo ${gcc_current} | sed 's/\.//g')
                                gcc_version_number_no_dot=$(echo ${gcc_new_version_number} | sed 's/\.//g')
                                # Now finding which no_dot is larger
                                if [ "${gcc_current_no_dot}" -eq "${gcc_version_number_no_dot}" ] ; then
                                        high_gcc="${gcc_new_version_number}"
                                elif [ "${gcc_current_no_dot}" -lt "${gcc_version_number_no_dot}" ] ; then
                                        high_gcc="${gcc_new_version_number}"
                                else
                                        high_gcc="${gcc_current}"
                                fi

                                gcc_for_gcc_config="${CHOST}-${high_gcc}"

It seems that the variable ${high_gcc} is not set for me as the following code is not valid for my setup:

Code:
if [[ -e "/etc/env.d/gcc/config" ]] ;then
                                gcc_current=$(sed 's/^.*\([0-9]\.[0-9]\.[0-9]\)/\1/' /etc/env.d/gcc/config)
                        elif [ -e "/etc/env.d/gcc/config-"${CHOST}"" ] ; then
                                gcc_current=$(sed 's/^.*\([0-9]\.[0-9]\.[0-9]\)/\1/' /etc/env.d/gcc/config-"${CHOST}")
                        fi

On my system I have the following in my /etc/env.d/gcc directory:

Code:
# ls /etc/env.d/gcc/ -al
total 25
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 368 Jan  1 17:18 .
drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 672 Jan  1 17:30 ..
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  23 Jan  1 17:18 .NATIVE -> i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.4.6
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root  32 Jan  1 17:18 config-i686-pc-linux-gnu
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 235 Nov 16 14:21 i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.4.6
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 396 Nov 16 14:21 i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.4.6-hardenednopie
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 399 Nov 16 14:21 i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.4.6-hardenednopiessp
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 396 Nov 16 14:21 i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.4.6-hardenednossp
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 390 Nov 16 14:21 i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.4.6-vanilla

The best way to figure out what gcc version I'm on is to cat the config file as follows:

Code:
# cat /etc/env.d/gcc/config-i686-pc-linux-gnu
CURRENT=i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.4.6

I'm using emwrap.sh Version-4.0.8 with gcc-config-r3 so I don't know if this has been noticed already and fixed in the next version?? I was unable to download it to check.

I hope this helps with future versions of your excellent script!

Richard.

I don't believe I had any circular dependencies overall, and certainly none in the failed package list (about a half-dozen random things, most coming from the expat upgrade).

[edit] sigh, I really need more sleep, sorry for the repeated edits.

I belated saw the link to emwrap-r4 above (thank you for the link seren) and it includes a nicer fix than mine for the gcc-config change.

red-wolf76 that is a more recent version than the one you are using.

I see the circular dependency problem myself with both 4.0.8 from Dec 2006 and this version (in this case it was easy enough to break the circle).

I think, I have found a bug in the emwrap.sh:

I'm executing: ./emwrap_2.sh -wetp but it fails with the

Code:

 Running emwrap.sh 4.0.8 with gcc-config-r4 Mon Oct 15 21:41:56 PDT 2007
 If emwrap.sh is run and it detects a "failed' or "build" file
 then it will offer to build them. You can ignor this by not doing
 anything and what you wanted todo will start after automaticlly.

work_dir is
[ebuild   R   ] dev-util/codeblocks-9999-r18

You have packages blocking each other. To fix run emerge
and take care of the blockage

I've written a little patch (it seems to work):

Code:

mraz scripts # diff emwrap_2.sh emwrap_3.sh
681c681
<                       if grep "blocks" wrld.lst ; then
---
>                       if grep -v '\[ebuild' wrld.lst &&  grep "blocks" wrld.lst ; then
689c689
<                       elif grep "masked" wrld.lst ; then
---
>                       elif grep -v '\[ebuild' wrld.lst &&  grep "masked" wrld.lst ; then

And thank you for the great script :)

Best regards,
Teodor

Use this latest version: emwrap.sh-r4 for great justice.

I used to have the same problem and now it's fixed.

This is what I've been running:
Code:
emwrap.sh -Sb
gcc-config -L
emwrap.sh -W

In the past I've had to emerge gmp and mpfr to get gcc to begin emerging. I'm doing a newer one now to see what happens.

Can emwrap work with any available set, not just system and world, such as @set_name_here ?

Unless heilvc has released a new version that I missed. It was created before sets support, so no it won't handle sets yet. At least not specifically. It will pass on parameters to emerge, so try it with the -p flag and see what happens.

If you don't need the toolchain broken out from system, I have porthole working with sets support and it breaks out system and sets packages from world so they only show up in the first one in the list (upgrades view).

I'm building a new amd64 server for my house.

I'm getting the ss and com_err problem so I did:

Code:
emerge -f e2fsprogs e2fsprogs-libs
emerge -C ss com_err e2fsprogs
emerge e2fsprogs e2fsprogs-libs

Make sure you get all of the dependencies to emerge e2fsprogs before you unmerge ss and com_err, or you might lose the ability to download them.

I'm sure there will be a few more problems so I'll update this post.

It looks like emwrap won't work when doing "emwrap -W" when the KDE game "kblocks" is installed. Here's the snippet from /tmp/emwrap/wrld.lst:

Code:
[ebuild   R   ] kde-base/kblocks-4.2.0

You have packages blocking each other. To fix run emerge
and take care of the blockage

I suppose I can uninstall the KDE game meta package...

I'll take a look. It will probably be Saturday before I will have anything.
