I have a Xircom XEM5600 pcmcia card that worked during gentoo install and afterward, I had emerged KDE and wanted to put ALSA on for sound, i followed the guide and when i booted i ended up no longer having my nic working.

I can no longer load xirc2ps_cs. PCMCIA loads at boot, as do i82365 and ds, but cardmgr fails to load my net card. When I modprobe or insmod xirc2ps_cs it complains of several unresolved symbols.

I have taken off alsa and attempted to use this guide to fix the problem https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=26716&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

i have messed with my kernal and ran emerge pcmcia-cs several times now and i am still having the same problem.

Maybe try rebuilding the xirc2ps_cs module with your installed kernel?
