I've just put the new 1.4 gentoo on my laptop, using the development kernel (2.6.0-test2). The machine is an hp pavilion zt 1175. Most things seem to work pretty well (haven't tested extensively, tho  ), but the pcmcia stuff is killing me.

Previously (kernel 2.4.21) the i82365 module was needed. Now, when I try to load it, I get "No such device". Grrr. I've tried lots of kernel options (blaming acpi, of course :D ) like acpi=no, pci=biosirq, etc. This module is from the kernel, whereas before it was bundled with the pcmcia_cs ebuild. It doesn't seem to be possible to use the pcmcia_cs ebuild version of i82365 with the new kernels (correct me if I'm wrong).

lspci indicates the pcmcia controller is 0000:00:04:0, and the name is "ENE Technology Inc CB1410 Cardbus Controller"

Any help greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
qbf

ps, is there anyway to search for "2.6" in the forums? I'm hoping this isn't a dup!

Thanks for the tip! yenta_socket is definitely right, but things are still pretty flakey. I've got it working (mostly), but after serious messing around. However, there is extensive bug-fixes for pcmcia and yenta in 2.6.0-test3. Hopefully that fixes it up.

For interest, here is what is (was) going wrong:

1/ Crashing. The log showed something about 'spurious interrupt irq7' Using kernel parameter pci=noacpi seemed to fix that.

2/ The card is found to be "anonymous memory"

3/ The card is determined properly, but the driver can't run because 'requested irq is in use'.

Waiting for test3....
