|
|
Hello, this is my first post in this forum and i am generely new to Gentoo Linux.
For the past week I have been trying to install some fonts from Windoze. (tahoma and others)
First, I used the KDE font wizard to install the fonts, all the QT proggies recondnized the newly installed fonts and I could used them, BUT, proggied like Mozilla and XChat did not.
So, I tryed to install them manually, I did the following:
Code: |
mkdir /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/new
cp tahoma.ttf /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/new
cd /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/new
ttmkfdir > fonts.scale
mkfontdir
|
then I edited /etc/X11/XF86Config and added the following line under the "Files" section:
Code: |
FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/new"
|
When I startx I get an error:
Code: |
Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/new, removing from list!
|
What am I doing wrong ??

not sure about mozilla, try searching the forum for fonts with mozilla i think there is something 'special' you have to do.
as for xchat, it won't recognize your tahoma fonts like kde apps will.
dont quote me on this but i think it has something to do with gtk??
anyways ive tried it and xchat doesnt recognize them. _________________ .. ...kemical. ... .. .. |

Hmm.... I kinda fixed the problem, I added
to /etc/X11/XF86Config (under the Module section)
BUT, I still have problems with the hebrew, for exemple in XChat, when I use Tahoma, I juse see " "
and in Mozilla, there is no blankspace (" ") between each word (when in hebrew sites..)
It's very strange.. _________________ "Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past." |

i had problems with mozilla + hebrew
u need to install the xfs first
type to see how to configure the service for boot.
then u need to edit your /etc/conf.d/xfs and chage the "-1" to "7100"
u can start it by typing Code: | /etc/init.d/xfs start |
edit your /etc/X11/XF86Config file and add
Code: | FontPath "tcp/{yourhostname}:7100" |
assumeing u allready copy your windows fonts to dirs if not copy from window fonts dir *.ttf to any dir.
last thing to do before starting x is to
edit /etc/X11/fs/config
and add the windows font directory
startx
tell me how u did :) _________________ Old dude |

You don't need xfs. I've answered similar question (the fourm is in Hebrew) in this thread at whatsup.org.il.
Read it and if you're still having problems, report back. _________________ There's someone in my head but it's not me - Pink Floyd |
