Hi all,
I do not really know who is responsible for this issue, so I'll post it here...

To my surprise, I found an ebuild for scilab 2.7 in the portage tree. I thought that scilab was being neglected for one reason or another.

What I don't understand is why this is not yet available for x86, but only for ~x86 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS. Scilab 2.7 has been around quite a while and is stable, while scilab 2.6 had an ugly bug: when printing a graph it would crash very easily. The documentation in 2.7 is also waaay prettier than for 2.6.

Cheers,
-Federico

Did you search on https://bugs.gentoo.org ? If you find a bug on it, you may find the reason listed. If you find nothing you can always enter a bug report on it and let them know your opinion on its status. Sometimes a package gets left marked unstable for a very long time simply because the maintainer doesn't notice.

This site lets people vote on the state of packages and should also help developers decide to mark it stable:

Well, I didn't mostly because I use scilab often and 2.7 is remarkably stable - though there is a competition ongoing among users to find the shortest sequence of instructions that will crash it. It is undoubtedly more stable than 2.6.
Anyway, I did the search now and nothing is reported.
Well, thanks for the tip - I'll file a little bug report.

Cheers,
-Federico
