I downloaded the live CD for Sparc about 3 weeks ago and installed it on an Ultra 10 at work. System works great, and I'm really impressed with Gentoo!
I see today that 1.4 final has been released (not for Sparc yet, though) and that 1.4_rc4, dated 02Aug03, is on the mirrors.
Question: When 1.4 final _is_ released for Sparc, and I update my Gentoo install, will there be any difference between my install and a fresh install with 1.4 final (functionality-wise) ?
Thanks. |

Version numbers are only relevant for LiveCD's with Gentoo.
Do a
$ emerge -u world
And you are up-to-date. No need to reinstall or something like that... people really have to learn this because this questions comes up alot |

That is one of the really nice things with Gentoo. Never need to download a new image _________________ A bus station is where a bus stops, a train station is where a train stops. On

Anyway, it is nice to have a 2CD set with all the packages pre-compiled (or not) for those times you feel like having to do a fast, "netless" install.... (yes, computers not connected to the internet still exist... )
Cheers! |
