Emerge reports that "important ... 4 config files in '/etc' need updating."
I don't know shall I try to solve this or continue with compiling the kernel ? |

From this menu I typically use option 3 to interactively pick what to merge and what not to.
Here's a how-to on it.
Edit: No, I don't believe that it will affect your kernel's compilation. These config files are just some files on /etc. |

When running etc-update, all is well, but do take into consideration that if you choose to merge the new files, you may have to edit them again to include your settings.
