No shutdown option in KDE when using SLiM

I have just switched to the SLiM graphical login manager and discovered that KDE no more provides ability to restart or shutdown my computer. Any ideas?

kcontrol -> kde components -> session manager.

Well, "Offer shutdown option" was checked. That it is the first thing I have looked at. If I start KDE using startx then it also does not offer shutdown option. Is there a way to fix that?

Just a shot in the dark, maybe X is not started as root by the SLiM ? If you startx this happens too...

I don't think that is possible without hacking a bit into ksmserver.
