6 in 1 multicard reader issues

Hello,

I recently purchased a no-name 6 in 1 USB multi card reader, which works fine in win xp.

I am now trying to set it up for Gentoo. "tail -f /var/log/messages" shows that the kernel recognizes it, and created /dev entries for it:

/dev/sdb for my Compact Flash card slot, and
/dev/sdc for my SD Card slot

Aftfer a few tries, I was able to mount /dev/sdb1 and /dev/sdc1.

The problems:

SD Card has ext2 FS on it. When I mount it, system log says, its an unlean file system, so I umount it and "e2fsck /dev/sdc1" The system froze !! No mouse, keyboard, CA-DEL, CA-F1, CA-BACK - nothing. had to hard reset.

I read in another thread that "hotplug" can be useful for such things. I verified that hotplug is installed, and did /etc/init.d/hotplug start

I got "Starting [ok]" and then the system froze before returning to the "# " prompt.

Now I am afraid to read / write data from / to the card reader, in fear of hanging...

Did you ever find out how to get this to work? I can't really find any documentation for it....
