|
|
Hi folks,
i update my whole system , and also upgrade my kernel to 2.6.0-test2.
( me was using linux-2.4.19 bevore )
Now me got the problem that me cant activate DMA on my harddrives.
( Me try to active it with the hdparm script on runlevel boot )
Me read a lot of threats here about i but still not find a solution.
Here is the Error-Msg.:
Code: |
root@bigbrother moritz # hdparm -d1 /dev/hda
/dev/hda:
setting using_dma to 1 (on)
HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Operation not permitted
using_dma = 0 (off)
|
Have to say that it works with kernel linux-2.4.19.
Some say that when me use "Use PCI DMA Always when supported", i dont have to use hdparm, but that also not work.
The following thinks are activated in my config:
CONFIG_GENERIC_ISA_DMA=y
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDEDMA_PCI=y
CONFIG_IDEDMA_PCI_AUTO=y
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDEDMA=y
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_ADMA=y
CONFIG_IDEDMA_AUTO=y
Some say that uprading hdparm fixed HDIO_SET_DMA, but it also not work.
pleeeease help and sorry for the bad english

I have the same problem. I scanned the kernel mailing list and notice a few postings about DMA, but did not see this specific problem. I am using the latest version of hdparm 5.4. _________________ Darrell Bellerive

What chipset is on your motherboard (lspci might help in this regard)? Look for an entry for that chipset in ATA/ATAPI/MFM/RLL support. If support for your chipset isn't in you won't get DMA despite hdparm trying to turn in on. _________________ Sometimes the appropriate response to reality is to go insane.

Chipset is SIS 745. DMA worked ok with 2.4.19 Gentoo Sources. _________________ Darrell Bellerive

Thanx Regor,
me activate the right shipset and now it works.
me wonder a bit cuz me dont need to activate it in the 2.4* kernels.
its easy to find your right shipset with the kde-controll-center
under System->I/O Inputdevices or some like that. |

I had the wrong chipset selected. That's what I get for building a kernel when I'm too tired. Changed to SIS and all is fine.
Thanks! _________________ Darrell Bellerive
