Seriously, this stuff ain't for regular people - but anyways,
I thought I'd give the ix86-install a try (before anything else, I might add) and did everything by the book - but nooo... no such luck.
My machine:
AMD K6 233 Mhz
96 MB Ram
2 GB Disk
rtl8139 network card
... and that's it! No other fancy gadgets are connected to it.
I simply can't get it to boot. Maybe it's the fstab I've done wrong
output from fdisk:
/dev/hda1 1 51 102784+ 83 Linux
/dev/hda2 52 149 197568 82 Linux swap
/dev/hda3 150 1023 1761984 83 Linux
output from fstab
/dev/hda1 /boot ext3 nauto,noatime 1,1
/dev/hda3 / ext3 noatime 0,1
/dev/hda2 none swap sw 0,0
... and Grub installed on MBR with /boot pointing to (hd0,0) just as in the installation guide elsewhere on this site.
Everything is compiled specifically for the k6 processor.
Can anyone figure out what I've done wrong?
Humbly awaiting the answer from your wisdom - cause mine obviously ain't worth sh..!
