This is unrelated, believe it or not, to my other thread I started.

What method should I use to move my 20GB gentoo system to a new 80GB disk?

dd? rsync?

I want to move it over, without worry to /proc and /dev, and boot it right up.

Thanks for the input!

TAR up everything from root. mount you other hdd. untar / snapshot chroot into new hdd. rerun lilo or grub (whichever you are using) shutdown, remove old Harddrive and put the 80GB as the first HDD so it is recognized as hda and then you should be able to boot the system.

Thanks chapman

I'm assuming that before all of that I should fdisk the drive and setup my partitions, like swap. Can I assume that I do the same for the /boot partition as well? Couldn't I just copy over everything including the MBR?

Thanks much for your help!

Ben
