Ulta 2 and sound

Using kernel 2.4.21 on my Ultra 2, I can't get sound enabled. About the furthest I get is getting soundcore insmod'd. If I try to insmod cs4231 I get this:

When I compiled the kernel I included sound support and the CS4231, make modules; make modules_install.... but to no avail. Doing a Google search really didn't help.

I was going to try the Alsa drivers but they are masked. Should I just download and compile ALSA from the ALSA webpage?

Any clues welcome.

Hi,

I compiled support into the kernel, rather than as a module, and it works well enough. I seem to have problems with artsd, though, but thats nothing new. I can use xmms, mpg123, etc and play sounds just fine.

I thought about trying that but didn't. I guess I'll give that a shot...
