Hi,

I bought a Samsung SP1604N (160GB). I hooked it up to my machine and tried fdisk-ing it. fdisk (and cfdisk, sfdisk, hdparm) just hangs. no output whatsoever.
Even after I updated my MB BIOS to one that supports 48 bit lba addressing it doesn't work.
Booted Windows xp (didn't do that in a long time) and was able to put a linux native partition (160GB) on it. But I still can't do anything with it under gentoo (no mounting, formatting, partitioning), all programs just hang.
during boot, the drive seems to be recognized correctly. This is the output of cat /proc/partitions (it's hdc / bus1/target0)

during bootup hdparm even seems to enable dma on the drive without problems, but when the system is up, I can't do anything.
Any Ideas anyone?

got it working.

doesn't work on the MB ide channels (asus a7a, ali m139x or sth. like that), but works on a promise ultra100 with updated bios.

Seems to be a driver bug in the kernel ide drivers. Anybody know if/how to report that?
