Well my USB keyboard doesnt seem to be working with gentoo, it boots up to the login and then when i try login nothing happens. The keyboard worked fine in the live cd when i was setting up, so im guessing i missed somethign out in the kernel and will need to compile it again? |

I'm assuming this is an accidental post that was supposed to be attached to your other thread? |

PosilFire,
As well as the USB driver for your chip set, you need to look in the (Human Interface Devices) hid section and build everything that you need.
If you don't know what you need build all three chip set drivers and the hid stuff as modules. Plug in a PS/2 keyboard and find out which modules you need loaded to make the USB keyboard work.
You will be able to type on either/both keyborads.

my motherboard is legacy free so i cant plug in a Ps/2 keyboard, ill just recompile the kernel with the necessary stuff, when you say modules i pressume thats something different to compiling the kernel with the added options? |

If I were you I wouldn't bother using modules. Just compile the options into the kernel and it should work fine. _________________ Meh. |

right i recompiled the kernel, i think it picks up the keyboard as it checks because it says somethign liek usb assigned to...... then says keyboard type..... but i cant read it very well because it only flashes on the screen for a second as it boots up. Whn it finishes booting and brins me to the login, it still doesnt seem to work, when i type nothing seems to appear and when i hit enter nothign happens. I noticed a few errors a few lines up from the login there shown below if anybody knows if they are the problem?
