Already found that before I posted
I don't want to use any CD
have found also http://dev.gentoo.org/~dberkholz/ltsp/setup.txt
but it's kinda confusing and I don't want X's
EDIT:
I want to set up a Cluster system (10 machines) which would have their images stored on the main server from where they would boot in case of a restart. Currently each machine has its own installation and I don't like that solution for 10 same HW setups ...
And besides that I would like to provide a CD-less network based setup for any new nodes / machines I'd put into the system ... Just plug in, set up network boot in bios, start and enjoy easy installation |

if you can get more than one node to boot with PXE boot to seperate directories, please let me know. I can only get the first one up, then when I try to add a second node, it blows up on me. |

Well I'm getting more into this now, finally managed to boot up through PXE (to a simple kernel, which was bad, but anyway, it worked in the process of booting)
vaguy: it's probbably no problem, you just need to name a configuration file for pxelinux.0 in the pxelinux.cfg directory after the MAC address of your client node (well, this depends on the pxelinux.0 you're using, it used to be IP addresses in the past, now it's according to MAC + you need to specify 01- in the beginning to define it as Ethernet address, so in fact it would be 01-aa-bb-cc-dd-ee-ff for example, where aa-bb-cc-dd-ee-ff would be the MAC of your client)
I'm having different problems now:
When I start a node, it goes into PXE boot procedure
it starts doing a DHCP discovery. On the master node in /var/log/messages there is ACK packet send to the client, BUT the client fails to accept it and ends up "Press any key to continue". After I press the key, the client restarts the boot procedure and is again doing DHCP discovery, but this time successfuly and it starts to boot up the kernel supplied by PXE - so IT WORKS!
Is anybody having an idea, if the DHCP server needs to be configured somehow specially (I set it up using http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/diskless-howto.xml) ? Pressing a key is not an option to boot up a PXE client in my case, even though it would work |
