These are the packages that I would merge, in order:
Calculating world dependencies ...done!
[blocks B ] app-emulation/winex-cvs (from pkg sys-libs/glibc-2.3.2-r1)
[blocks B ] media-libs/libquicktime (from pkg media-libs/quicktime4linux-1.5.5-r1) _________________ http://www.mafteah.co.il |

i'm experiencing the same problems, it's impossible doing a simple world update. elfutils and libelf even have some kind of circular blockings but libelf want's beeing merged. so the only way is unmergeing both, but then screen doesn't work any longer. total crap |

From libquicktime-0.9.2_pre1.ebuild:
Code: | DEPEND=">=sys-apps/sed-4.0.5
media-libs/libdv
=x11-libs/gtk+-1.2*
png? ( media-libs/libpng )
jpeg ( media-libs/jpeg )
oggvorbis? ( media-libs/libvorbis )
media-libs/quicktime4linux" |
From quicktime4linux-1.5.5-r1.ebuild:
Code: | DEPEND="media-libs/jpeg
media-libs/libpng
!media-libs/libquicktime" |
Something's messed up there... libquicktime depends on quicktime4linux being there, but quicktime4linux depends on libquicktime NOT being there. _________________ Dan |

The latest rsync takes care of the libquicktime/quicktime4linux problem.
Thanks to whoever did that.
As for the other problem - the block between libelf and elfutils, just unmerging libelf will now fix that problem as well. Elfutils will do the trick by itself.
At least, this has been my experience; it solved the problem for me. |

Because they create problems when installed with other packages (overwriting files the most common one) |

I understand the purpose of blocking my question is what is the fix? Should you go through and delete each of the offending/blocked packages in the hope that the package blocking that will handle those functions?

Unmerge the blocking packages (in your case xft, system-tray-applet, libquicktime, quicktime4linux) and remerge the blocked packages (xfree, gnome-panel and one of the quicktime packages). |
