Recently I was updating my system and it seems to have stalled on Esound 2.38-r1. The build fails as soon as it starts compiling the documentation. I even changed my use to include "-doc". Still same result. Sorry for the long text. But it just seems like I'm missing something huge here. Well anyway. Thank you in advance for help. Everyone on this site is always so helpful.

Thank you. As I was going through the bugzilla I noticed several other people with the same problem, and mine was resolved in the same way. Big kudos to gentoo bugzilla and these forums are the best. Thanks agian.

I wish he hadn't done that personally, because i just searched bugs.gentoo.org and am having this problem and cannot find the bug he is referencing for esound. I know duplicate sounds bad to some people, but if the answer had been here I wouldn't be stuck, which I now am because I can't find any esound bugs in bugs.gentoo.org (which I searched BEFORE) coming here.

I might just have a search term issue (I'm only searching for esound by itself), but it's annoying.

These are the bugs I see on bugs.gentoo.org?? none of these have to do with this problem. Where is this bug?

EDIT: found, didn't expect it to be a closed bug. Says has to do with corruption of sgml catalog (how does that happen? ) and so requires remerging app-text/sgml-common. This worked for me.

Damn, see how many duplicates were closed!
People should search better first :(

It can be difficult to search Bugzilla. It took me a while to find the above bug, and I knew it was there. The Gentoo Forums search tool is rather limited, but you can use external search engines to search the Forums;

Clusty: '[my search terms] host:forums.gentoo.org'
Google: '[my search terms] site:forums.gentoo.org'

Unfortunately this doesn't work for "host:bugs.gentoo.org" (I don't know why: security concerns? poor design?).

------------------------------------------------------------

SO -- I usually search the forums before I search Bugzilla, and so I often use the forums as an index to Bugzilla. In this case, I ran a Google search on

Quote:
"jade:/usr/share/sgml/docbook/sgml-dtd-3.1/dbcent.mod:53:65:W: cannot generate system identifier for public text "ISO 8879:1986//ENTITIES Added Math Symbols: Arrow Relations//EN" site:gentoo.org

I'm grateful to bobTheAvenger for saving me time; if he hadn't started this thread, my search would not have found anything useful, and I would have spent much longer finding a fix. Sometimes redundancy is useful; information available in several forms is easier to find, especially if it is interlinked. Hence duplicate bugs are marked "duplicate" rather than deleted. Not that I'm supporting posting duplicate bugs on purpose, but they can act as an index to an ill-described or hard-to-find bug.

Improving Gentoo's search tools would be a very worthwhile project. Meanwhile, please bear with those of us with embarrassingly poor searching skills .

How are you searching?
You need to use the "ALL" keyword:

+1 thanking bobTheAvenger and xanas3712 for the original post and the reference to the solution. I appreciated finding the tip here.

<sees no problem with the information being posted in two places if it helps>

Just for the record, I ALWAYS search gentoo forums for problems before I'll look at bugs.gentoo. Usually someone here is already asking about it, and the fix is to hand.
