Inkscape memory problems - amd64 problem?

First, I've posted the question here:

Inkscape refuses to allocate 130MB of memory for a buffer. Recently I've tried it on a 32bit debian system, and it worked without any problems. So my question is - is it a problem with gentoo, or with 64bit architecture?
Of course if anyone knows a solution, I'll be very happy to hear it.
