Naaah... io ho iniziato parecchio tempo fa con linux e non avevo nemmeno X xchè non esistevano driver per la mia skvideo e vga non andava.. sono rimasto parecchio tempo in bash...
Poi finalmente i primi driver arrivarono e installai subito gnome. Kde all'epoca era veramente bruttino, pesante, e rozzzo

Ora mi chiedereai, "xchè non lo provi ora? " .. he sai.. non c'è un xchè. Ma sono affezzzzzionato a Gnome

succedeva anche a me..ho scoperto poi che era un problema di un font..verdana mi pare...smanando con i file di conf in /etc/fonts e roba simile ho po risolto

C'e' un bug report al riguardo.
Tuttavia, fatez, passa a KDE (almeno provalo). Te lo dice un ex-gnomiano.
