|
|
I am trying to get my newly installed Flux WM themed. I have downloaded and installed:
http://fluxbox.sourceforge.net/zoom.php?themes/sid/aleczapka_digitalshe.jpg
This works fine, but I don't get the nice transparent xterm, I am just stuck with it looking as it does when you first install flux...
Does anyone know how I could make it look as it's meant to in the theme?
Thanks |

iirc, xterm doesnt support any transparency, you'd have to use something such as aterm (that's what i use), which does allow you to have transparencies. so yeah, use aterm, its in portage, so all you need to do is emerge aterm |

Thanks, I am now using Eterm, this seems much better
One thing though, I don't like having the menu at the top (Where you configure it e.g. eterm, font, background, etc).
Now I have it how I like it, is there anyway to remove this? |

I would advice you to use aterm - is much, much faster then Eterm and has the same features (more, less). Just check how many memory uses Eterm and aterm, also try to ls -la /usr/lib and you will notice aterm is much faster.
Here is the command line to have aterm look cool (all in one line).
aterm -name aterm -title 'Gentoo Terminal' -sl 3000 -tr +sb -sr -si -sk -bg black -shading 60 -fade 90 -tn xterm
-fn -misc-fixed-medium-r-normal-*-*-120-*-*-c-*-iso8859-2
-g 130x50+20-0 -fg \#cecece
Put also this into your .Xdefaults file (aterm will read these settings) to fix the colors.
XTerm*color0: #000000
XTerm*color1: #b21818
XTerm*color2: #18b218
XTerm*color3: #BE5F00
XTerm*color4: #6D85BA
XTerm*color5: #b218b2
XTerm*color6: #18b2b2
XTerm*color7: #b2b2b2
XTerm*color8: #686868
XTerm*color9: #FF5454
XTerm*color10: #54FF54
XTerm*color11: #FFFF54
XTerm*color12: #73A5FF
XTerm*color13: #FF54FF
XTerm*color14: #54FFFF
XTerm*color15: #FFFFFF
XTerm*background: black
XTerm*foreground: #A8A8A8
You can also put there aterm specific settings and don't have to pass them via command line, eg
Aterm*scrollBar: false
Aterm*loginShell: true
Aterm*transparent: true
Aterm*tintingType: true
Aterm*tinting: #a07040
Aterm*shading: 35
Aterm*title: Terminal
Aterm*iconName: Terminal
Aterm*font: -misc-fixed-medium-r-normal-*-14-*-*-*-c-*-iso8859-15
Aterm*geometry: 120x40
P.S.
nice theme |

Check man aterm for the complete list of option switches --
is the border width; I'd guess "-bw 0" will do it. _________________ It is not like the world will end if I take the day off from eating worlds. |

| I asked about ATERM not about Eterm that has this feature. Read man aterm - there are no anything about no_borders option |

i put that stuff in my ~/.Xdefaults file, which I had to create and it's transparent, and i've tweaked it to my liking but when you move the terminal around the screen, the transparent image "stays".
Here is a screenshot:
http://pics.sector-19.com/images/idiotic.jpg
How can I get the transparent image to re-adjust itself every time i move the terminal? |

does the tabs work ?
i have the cvs version of fluxbox, and it seems like the tabs dont work like they should.
it would be nice with a comprehensive fluxbox tool that can configure the tab and other thing. _________________ Encrypt, lock up everything and duct tape the rest |

ok I have my aterm command like so....
aterm -tr -trsb -bw 0 -g 132X52 -bl -rv
I have the aterm ru at startup.
its nice because it looks like my terminal is running with my bakcground,
BUT I want the aterm window to be started on the bottom layer so i can select the window without it covering up my whole screen.
iss there any way to make it startup on the bottom layer (opposite of always on top, when compared to other windows)
I use fluxbox. |

You could try to let Fluxbox remember the layer of your aterm.
This can be done by right-clicking the icon in the toolbar and selecting remember -> layer. the only problem is that every aterm you start will be at the bottom of your screen |

You can highlight the text in aterm, and then paste with the middle button in other applications _________________ Bunder for president ^o^ |

What i think you mean is to have like a log view running on the desktop's background right ? Like you see in many screenshots
I can recommend "root-tail" as a perfect tool to view/tail you log files on the x11 screen.
root-tail website
You can see a "rather" large screenshot of mine where i use it.
Screenshot with root-tail used to show my log files and some debug info for my programs.
It's a large png file, but worth the look. _________________ ::David Bjørnsten-Lindhard

what panel is using on the right side of the screen at http://fluxbox.sourceforge.net/zoom.php?themes/sid/aleczapka_digitalshe.jpg for wm* plugins docking ? can it do auto-hide ? can windows be placed over ("upper" in z scale) than plugins do ?
what analog to xterm -fn 8x16bold in .Xdefaults ?

10x. i will take it to my openbox ;D so what is with the "-fn 8x16bold" font structure? i've just switched to modular X and can't find xlsfonts.
i think that 8x16 is the perfect size, like just in real console. really eyes-safe!
p.s. if somone will need it just type locate fonts.alias | xargs grep 8×16 |

I get | Code: | | aterm: can't load color "#A8A8A8 ", colorID = 0, (29) | when I try that config (in reference to the "XTerm*foreground" variable). Visually, all the text that should be white is black, making very difficult to see on a black tinted background. What color code should be going in there?
Note: xterm displays the color fine (just lacks the pretty transparency). |
