|
|
After syncing, portage wants to install dev-java/sun-jdk-1.6.0.02 which (supposedly) requires virtual/libstdc++-3.3 which requires sys-devel/gcc-3.3.6-r1.
I currently have dev-java/sun-jdk-1.5.0.12 which lists no such requirement.
Can someone verify that 1.6 does actually require this (while 1.5 does not), and if so, why?
I will definitely take a pass on this if I have to go back to having a gcc version 3 three compiler around (even if I never use it). I spent a lot of effort getting it off of my machines, and don't want to put it back on. |

It either requires =sys-libs/libstdc++-v3-3.3* or =sys-devel/gcc-3.3*, so install the first one and it should not ask for gcc-3.3 anymore. |

No, libstdc++ 3.3 gets built from gcc version 3.
Code: | emerge -pv libstdc++
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:
Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild NS ] sys-devel/gcc-3.3.6-r1 USE="gcj nls (-altivec) -bootstrap -boundschecking -build -doc -fortran -gtk (-hardened) -ip28 -ip32r10k (-multilib) -multislot (-n32) (-n64) -nocxx -nopie -nossp -objc -test -vanilla" 23,534 kB
[ebuild N ] virtual/libstdc++-3.3 0 kB
Total: 2 packages (1 new, 1 in new slot), Size of downloads: 23,534 kB |
I just don't see why an old compiler would suddenly become a dependency in a new java version. |

Install "libstdc++-v3" first.

Hmm, that's only a dep for x86, which looks wrong one way or the other, I think it's for the browser plugin, but then it should be conditional on the nsplugin use flag as well (but that's just a guess). |
