I've been using Gentoo now for quite sometime. Lately, I did a fresh install of Gentoo 1.4_rc4 on a Dell Latitude C800 laptop. Everything went swimmingly as usual.
After emerging xfree, creating the xf86config and verifying that the default WM starts, something unexpexted happened. I hit <CTRL><ALT>Backspace and the laptop display went white and the machine just stopped. No disk activity, no response to ANY keyboard input, could not be pinged, etc. It just died.
Any idea on what to check? _________________ "Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy"
