While installing gentoo on my "new" Ultra 1 yesterday I encountered a severe problem:
The bootstrap failed because one of the packages needed a C++ compiler. Unfortunately, g++ wasn't completely installed in the stage 1 tarball.
Right now, I'm trying with the files from stage 3.
I think you should fix this soon (or tell me what I did wrong)... |

I am glad to see this post. I have been fighting with getting an Ultra-60
into my SMP farm and discovered there was no g++. The machine is
enough different from the other sparcs I am using that I thought I might
be seeing a weird disk problem.
I am trying to regenerate gcc now; it doesn't seem to be quite right on
any of the stage-ed builds. ...
And that has finished, and the new & shiny gcc-3.2.3-r1 version of
g++ can find itself and build programs.
If you are doing anything wrong, I did the same wrong thing.
