Hi Folks,

since a week or so I can not access the Online Package Database, AKA "http://packages.gentoo.org".

I have tried with different browsers (Firefox, Seamonkey, Lynx) from different PC's over different uplinks routed over different providers and backbones. But I have found no clues, neither on my box nor on www.gentoo.org, nor in a forum.

What am I doing wrong ?

Here is the errormessage from Firefox 2.0.0.6:

Code:
Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at packages.gentoo.org

And one from Lynx:

Code:
# lynx packages.gentoo.org
Looking up packages.gentoo.org first
Looking up packages.gentoo.org
Making HTTP connection to packages.gentoo.org
Alert!: Unable to connect to remote host.

And last but not least a traceroute to packages.gentoo.org:

Code:
# traceroute packages.gentoo.org
traceroute to nuthatch.gentoo.osuosl.org (140.211.166.163), 30 hops max, 38 byte packets

I have deleted the first 8 hops of my provider for not compromising him in a unforeseeable way

A ping to the same destination works

Code:
# ping packages.gentoo.org
PING packages.gentoo.org (140.211.166.163) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from nuthatch.gentoo.osuosl.org (140.211.166.163): icmp_seq=1 ttl=47 time=176 ms
64 bytes from nuthatch.gentoo.osuosl.org (140.211.166.163): icmp_seq=2 ttl=47 time=174 ms
64 bytes from nuthatch.gentoo.osuosl.org (140.211.166.163): icmp_seq=3 ttl=47 time=175 ms

so what is going on here ???

I do not have any probs with other sites I'm surfing to more or less regularly

Thanks in advance

It's down. Search the forums and you will find the answers you seek. Or not.
