Hmm, every time I try to compile it it complains about my version of GCC. How were you able to get it going? I'm very interested in having ALSA sound drivers instead of the sorta crappy one from 2.4 kernels! |

2.6.0-test1 breaks top, apparently the format of /proc/stat has changed, any suggestions?

Code: | uname -a
Linux xxxxxx 2.6.0-test2 #1 SMP Mon Jul 28 13:25:57 CEST 2003 sparc64 sun4u TI UltraSparc II (BlackBird) GNU/Linux
|
Code: |
deimos2 root # uptime

I am finally able to compile the 2.6.0-test2 kernel, however on boot my keyboard and mouse do't work... Nothing special, ultra2 with a type 6 keyboard.. I haven't found the magic combination of poorly documented features that brings about a working keyboard. Any chance of getting your .config file?
Code: |
grep -v "^#" .config | grep -v "^$"

Tried 2.6-test7, and found it a bit of a challenge keeping the Kernel size within acceptable proportions.
Anyway, it won't boot:
Remapping the kernel...
Booting linux...
and there it hangs...

I've got the same problem. Have you found a way round it? This is the first 2.6.0-X kernel I've run on my sparc, so I'm gonna try -test6 to see if this has the same prob.. |

test7 worked for me with this .config: http://dev.gentoo.org/~bazik/configs/config260test7bk4 |

OK, I think I've cracked it. Bazik, your config worked fine - Thanks. I can break it by enabling the pre-emptible option. As my Sparc30's really only good as a server, it's not a biggie for me, but it's bit of a bummer if you wanted your Sparc as a swanky workstation.. |

Don't use pre-empt on sparcs. Ever. If you want the full explanation, speak to wesolows (he's a kernel dev) on #gentoo-sparc. The short version is that it's really slow on sparcs and will kill performance unless you're at considerably > 1 load. |
