Anyone else not able to connect? It's pingable, but that's it. I've noticed it's been intermittently unresponsive lately.
Using errorzilla, a traceroute shows this:
Quote: |
Analysis:
Number of hops: 13
Last hop responding to ICMP: 13, UDP: 0, TCP: 0.
There appears to be a firewall at 74.53.59.130 (hop 1) that blocks unwanted UDP packets.
There appears to be a firewall at 74.53.59.130 (hop 1) that blocks unwanted TCP packets.
|
[edit] A normal, command-line traceroute won't even get through.

Hi didymos.
The site had to be put down to fix an issue. I'm sure it'll be up as fast as possible. _________________ Jorge.

OK, thanks. I checked the announcements forums, but didn't see anything. I'm just glad the problem isn't on my end. _________________ Thomas S. Howard |

I have had problems with packages.gentoo.org not showing new content. I have had to manually refresh each visit to see the new packages. Ctrl+refresh-button in firefox, for example.
I'm pretty sure it's not my firefox that's to blame since it happens on several different machines.
Perhaps this is what's getting fixed? |

Yes, some servers are currently not reachable from the internet, please give the infrastructure folks some time to fix it. Merged to another thread about it. _________________ KDE |

as well as freenode.org, which I wanted to visit because of the gentoo irc channels. Is that site related to packages.gentoo.org? |

Well, it's not like we can say "No.! No time for you!" Basically, our options are:
- wait it out patiently
- whine
- complain (not always the same as whining)
- Curl into a foetal position and enter a catatonic reverie as we contemplate the IMMINENT DEATH OF GENTOO

Well, then there's a wrong link on http://www.gentoo.org/main/en/irc.xml which leads to freenode.org
Edit: Wrong link in the 2nd line: Quote: | All our official IRC channels can be found on freenode: |

Still down. It'll take as long as it takes, of course; and yet it'd still be nice to know just what's happening here. If nothing else we can sympathize with the site maintainers in their plight. _________________ Petition for Better 64-bit ATI Drivers - Sign Here

Hi guys, I hope to be in the right forum, anyway, anybody noticed that http://packages.gentoo.org is offline since 2 days?
Is it a common server problem or someone decided to close that service?
I hope it will be back soon.
Thanks and greetings, _________________ The Dark Free Soul

Merged the above post.
The service has been temporarily suspended. As beandog mentioned in this topic, there are other services which are available in the interim. |

Isnt it obvious - packages.gentoo.org is doing emerge -u world. They should transmit the console log over irc or smth so we would have something to watch while waiting. |

Over the last few days I have had no response from packages.gentoo.org. All other gentoo sites seem to be fine. I have tried multiple ISPs and I have got others to try too.
Is there a problem? an upgrade? Something wrong with the vibe getting to Australia?
It's getting a bit frustrating since I find the packages site VERY HELPFUL (which is a KUDO's to the gentoo team.) |

Rumor on the gentoo-user mailing list is that it is down "until further notice." Given that there was no notice it was going down, I'm not sure how one would find out it's back up other than to visit it daily, which I already did. I hope this isn't a permanent state of affairs. _________________ [][] C. Lee Davis

Dear desultory,
Sorry about the duplicate - It is just that the gentoo forums are very difficult to search.
I searched for "packages", "packages.gentoo.org" and nothing came up.
