You are late by 8 months or so (november 23 of the past years rings a bell, but I am not sure).
Xmms was removed long ago because:
1.- It is dead upstream
2.- There were no maintainer, and no one volunteered to maintain it
3.- It depends on some old gtk1 stuff that is not in portage, as there weren't either a maintainer for that, and there is no upstream support that that either.
You can still use it in an overlay, though. I am hosting some xmms stuff I rescued. I am not a big fan of xmms, but it is still of some use to me in some machines, and each day that passes by, it is more difficult to find the relevant packages in the internet.
http://jesgue.homelinux.org/downloads.php
You will find the overlay for xmms, and a section to download tarball related to xmms stuff. If you need some old package that is not there, let me know and i will upload it if I find it in between my distfiles.
You can also read this long thread about the "bye bye xmms" thing:

I understand...
They recommended audacious instead, and told that it looks like xmms and it accepts xmms's skins. So i'm emerging it now

Yeah, you missed all the wailing and gnashing of teeth. As long as you weren't an xmms user or one of the people responsible for removing it from the tree, it was pretty amusing. _________________ Thomas S. Howard |
