make.conf help

Hello - I'm installing Gentoo for the very first time and it's on an Ultra 5. So far, everything is going fairly well. When I configure the make.conf file, do I need to uncomment entries such as PORTDIR, DISTDIR or FETCHCOMMAND? Not so much these lines in particular, but in general it seems that their a bunch of lines that hould be uncommented.

I plan on clustering(high availability) two U5's as database servers and a U10 as an application server.
Thanks, sorry for the newbie question. It's my first stab at Gentoo. Any comments would be appreciated.

you dont need to uncomment those lines unless you are going to chang the settings in them....

There are defaults already predefined.
