ATI Radeon framebuffer 1400x1050 and 16bit color?

Hi fellows!

I have Ati Radeon RV350 [Mobility Radeon 9600 M10] on my nc6000 HP Compaq Laptop. Problem is that there is no way to select 1400x1050 resolution with 16 or 24bit colors, and I want to set up a splash screen. Vesafb doesn't recognize 1400x1050 because it's not a standard resolution, and if I use RadeonFB driver, then I can select 1400x1050, but can't select 16 bit color I've tried with video=radeon:1400x1050-16@60, video=radeon:1400x1050@60-24, but nothing responds, I always get "No 8bpp verbose picture specified in theme config." error on boot.

It never occurred to me to try 16 bit colour. I have an ASUS A2K, and it has the same chip. I run it in 32 bit , with fbsplash, and the "experimental" r300 driver. Here's my kernel line:

Of course, I had to do my own splash theme, because of the non-standard resolution...

Works for me. YMMV.

OK, I did it... I've put 32 and now it works. I don't know if it has something to do with it, but I've build both radeonfb & vesafb drivers into kernel this time. This is my grub.conf for this kernel:
