PPC installation trouble..

Hi, I'm having some troubles installing gentooppc on my imac DV 400.
I got nearly everything fixed, booted from the cd, mounted my linux partition, unmounted the base tarball, chooted in, ran emerge baselayout.
But, when I ran emerge system some error happened, after a couple of hours, when compiling berkeley db, this error showed up:
gcc (gcc -02 -pipe) cannot create C++ executables.
error in /usr/portage/sys-libs/db/db-3.2.3h-r4.ebuild

Strange thing is, that there are more recent versions in /usr/portage/sys-libs/db/
Can I somehow make it install a newer version or something?
And does anyone know why gcc seems broken and how I could fix it?
