After I updated portage to 2.0.12 today (using emerge --update world),
I can't emerge any packages at the moment, because emerge always tells me, that it can't find a file called libgcc_s.so.1. I've already looked for it "manually", but couldn't find it either. :-(

Any ideas?

Same problem here.

I just finished installing Gentoo, rebooted, ran "emerge rsync", then attempted to update portage to the latest version 2.0.12, and I got the error message.

Yep,

I got the same issue. My workaround was to do a find for the lib : oddly enogh it comes w/OpenOffice.

I copied it to /usr/lib and hoped for the best. It worked...

make sure you back up your /etc/make.conf and /etc/make.global files before untaring the portage rescue -- otherwise all your changes will go away.
