Hi!
It's april anyone any idea when the new gentoo is going to be released. I know I can use the 2006.1 and emerge will update everything anyway. But if there are any changes in the toolchain this will be a lot of work I would like to avoid.

Moved from Installing Gentoo to Gentoo Chat.
Not about getting gentoo installed, so moved here. _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. Help answer the unanswered

It'll be released when it's ready. If it's causing you trouble feel free to copy files over from 2006.1 to 2007.0 and re-symlink so that you can feel safe in the knowledge that an arbitrary number is now bigger. |

I have heard that kernel of trouth has an unoffical live cd on the net, but I didn*t remembered the site.
I also want a newer cd, but I will have to wait for it. |

Wish I knew the exact date. Im glad that they dont release new builds too frequently because its a pain having to do reinstalls all the time because upgrades lead to dependency probs (ubuntu .. cough... )
Im not saying upgrading a current install leads to dependency problems, but that is a case with Ubuntu. _________________ Join me in the "Leave no thread unanswered" act. The quest to leave no thread left unanswered. |

? excuse me FUD!
like hell am I re-installing whenever a new GEntoo LiveCD comes out, for starters there is no need.
What do you think occurs doing the install.. have a think... files are fetch from the internet and compiled against the same dependencies a working desktop does
I mean it uses the same portage tree! and ebuilds FFS I thought that would be the biggest give away
a new liveCD is only good if some piece of hardware that is needed for install (NIC or ATA controller) is not supported by present liveCD... and that is it. I stuck with the Gentoo-1.4 disk for a very long time and only got the 2006.1 disk because my new hardware was not supported. _________________

My server is still running what was essentially created with a 1.4 livecd. As naib said, the only reason to wait for a new livecd is to take advantage of unsupported hardware. But, if that's the case, ask around the forums. Someone may have already made one with your hardware support builtin. |
