I'm on PPC, but I'm not sure if it's a PPC issue or not, so I'll treat it as a generic one. An update to openoffice (2.1.0-r1) came with my latest emerge world, so I tried to emerge it using
Code:
CFLAGS="" emerge openoffice
but it failed with this error:
Code:
------------------------------
Making Module-Definitionfile : ../unxlngppc.pro/misc/uno_sal.def
just a dummy for UNIX
------------------------------
Making Module-Definitionfile : ../unxlngppc.pro/misc/sal_textenc.def

cp -f /var/tmp/portage/app-office/openoffice-2.1.0-r1/work/ooo/build/OOE680_m6/solenv/src/default_description.xml ../unxlngppc.pro/misc/uno_sal.xml
xml2cmp -func ../unxlngppc.pro/misc/uno_sal_description.cxx ../unxlngppc.pro/misc/uno_sal.xml
xml2cmp: symbol lookup error: xml2cmp: undefined symbol: _ZN8stlp_std13_Filebuf_base7_M_seekExi
dmake:  Error code 127, while making '../unxlngppc.pro/misc/uno_sal_description.cxx'

ERROR: Error 65280 occurred while making /var/tmp/portage/app-office/openoffice-2.1.0-r1/work/ooo/build/OOE680_m6/sal/util
make: *** [stamp/build] Error 1

I have the following USE flags set on the package:
Code:
app-office/openoffice -gnome -firefox java cairo gtk -kde xml

And the whole emerge line looked like this before I compiled:
Code:
[ebuild     U ] app-office/openoffice-2.1.0-r1 [2.0.4] USE="cairo cups eds gstreamer gtk java ldap pam -binfilter -branding -dbus -debug -firefox -gnome -kde -odk -seamonkey% -sound -webdav" LINGUAS="en en_US -af -ar -as_IN% -be_BY -bg -bn -bs -ca -cs -cy -da -de -el -en_GB -en_ZA -es -et -fa -fi -fr -gu_IN -he -hi_IN -hr -hu -it -ja* -km -ko -lt -lv -mk -nb -nl -nn -nr -ns -or_IN% -pa_IN -pl -pt -pt_BR -ru -rw -sh_YU -sk -sl -sr_CS -st -sv -sw_TZ -ta_IN% -te_IN% -tg% -th -ti_ER% -tn -tr -ts -ur_IN% -ve% -vi -xh -zh_CN -zh_TW -zu" 0 kB

I tried searching for the error but to no avail. Does anyone have any idea what's going wrong? Thank you!

...and the same here.

STLPort is version 5.1.0, and I don't see any odd symlinks under /usr/include (previously reported as causing problems).

(On dual althon-mp btw)

This is not a PPC issue. I get this on x86 too.

Dear timeBandit,
I run into the same error as above (on a centrino dual), and tried to follow the procedere as described under "Comment #3":

Quote:
Please move 'append-lfs-flags' to head of src_compile function in STLport
ebuild and change it to 'append-lfs-flags -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64

Why? Because 'append-lfs-flags' adds them to cppflags only, which is neither
CFLAGS nor CXXFLAGS. So it is not used.

Okay - after changing in /usr/portage/dev-libs/STLport/STLport-5.1.0.ebuild
the line
append-lfs-flags
to
append-lfs-flags -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 -D_LARGEFILE_SOURCE -D_LARGEFILE64_SOURCE
and running a

an emerge =STLport-5.1.0

Anz you should be using append-flags, not append-lfs-flags.
I did this, and furthermore put the statement as the very first in the src_compile function. It seems to work now, openoffice is not finished compiling, but it is past the error.

I'm trying, very hard, to put together the the information from the various posts regarding this error...

I must not be abstracting the right information, or else, I don't know how to properly modify /usr/portage/dev-libs/STLport/STLport-5.1.0.ebuild and then successfully "digest" it and use it.

Would someone, who has figured all this out, please write the steps (in an easy to comprehend style) leading to a successful emerge of this package?

Thanks!

This solved it here.

The easiest way:
Open the ebuild with your favorite editor (hope its vim):
Code:
vim /usr/portage/dev-libs/STLport/STLport-5.1.0.ebuild

Go to Line 59 of the ebuild in the function src_compile()
Delete the line
Code:
append-lfs-flags

Go to Line 38 of the ebuild in the function src_compile()
Add the line
Code:
append-flags -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 -D_LARGEFILE_SOURCE -D_LARGEFILE64_SOURCE

Redigest:
Code:
ebuild /usr/portage/dev-libs/STLport/STLport-5.1.0.ebuild digest

Emerge again:
Code:
emerge -av STLport

NB: it is better practice to put the modified ebuild in your local overlay so that it never gets overwritten.

HTS...

That seems to have solved it for me! Thanks immensely for the help!

My local overlay is /usr/local/portage. I attempted moving STLport-5.1.0.ebuild to /usr/local/portage/dev-libs/STLport/, and redigesting and emerging it from there, as you suggested. It didn't work for me... I received the following output:
Code:

What is my mistake likely to have been? I want to be better prepared for next time. :)

Thanks, again!

I guess you should rename the ebuild to STLport-5.1.0-r1.ebuild, or portage will not know if you want to emerge from /usr/portage or /usr/local/portage.

Yes, as suggested, rename it with an -r1. Then rebuild the digest on it. Also, regarding your specific error, I had the same issue and solved it by copying the patches to the local overlay. :)

Thanks to all who posted the steps to workaround this. 8)

When you copy an ebuild to an overlay, you must also copy all patch files in the <cat>/<package>/files dir that are applied on the ebuild - it seems you didn't.

Code:
Anz you should be using append-flags, not append-lfs-flags.

... Sorry, I am an idiot - I will try after work and post the result here

--- Update ---
Thanks, Dear gsoe,
emerging STLport worked now, openoffice is still emerging ...

--- Update of an update ---
... after compiling through the night, "emerge openoffice" is finished without any crashes.

Thanks alot!

When you copy an ebuild to an overlay, you must also copy all patch files in the <cat>/<package>/files dir that are applied on the ebuild - it seems you didn't.

This is the right answer. You must NOT rename it.... If you rename it to r1 and put it in your overlay, then when the real r1 goes into portage, your system won't update to the real r1... Because the overlay comes last in /etc/make.conf, you *don't need* to change the version number yourself... Of course portage knows which one to pick: your custom overlay always gets picked upon the portage one. Hence the name overlay, not underlay ;) This is desirable behaviour.

Just copy the "files" directory from there to your overlay and it will work.
Code:
cp -av /usr/portage/dev-libs/STLport/files /usr/local/portage/dev-libs/STLport/

Here's my STLport-5.1.0 ebuild, maybe it's wrong?
