That's an sdl problem. And instead of posting make.conf, you should post the output of emerge --info and always put output from the terminal in code blocks.

There is a code button under the subject area: select the text and hit the code button before submitting it. It makes it a lot easier for me to read.

Anyway, it is an SDL problem. Try re-emerging or upgrading SDL.

first see if revdep-rebuild brings up anything. If you don't have revdep-rebuild, emerge gentoolkit and run it. If that doesn't work, re-emerge everything related to sdl on your computer and try it again. Make sure the opengl use flag is on.

I know this is a stupid issue among serious installation & configuration ones, but Frozen Bubble is a game which can get my whole family stucked to the pc :)

I have the same "segmentation fault" problem with my amd64 installation.

I have re-emerged both sdl-image (with png and gif flags) and sdl-mixer (with mikmod flag), then I tried libsdl, sdl-gfx, sdl-net, sdl-sound, sdl-ttf, sdl-perl.

I have updated several times the frozen-bubble emerge. No good results.

Running amd64 myself. Haven't had any problems with it for a long time though. Few things to try:

1) Try different options in 'frozen-bubble --help'
2) Have you tried unmerging it, then emerging it. Sometimes that works.
3) Try adding 'sdl' to your use flags and 'emerge -D --newuse frozen-bubble'
It doesn't have any use flags, but it's worth a shot.
4) I didn't see emerging 'sdl-pango' on your list, so try remerging that.

Maybe I was wrong somewhere, but even after updating gcc to the 4.1.1-r3 version (during the emerge -D --newuse frozen-bubble command) the situation did not change.

I hope that with some patience and practice, I will be able to solve this glitch.

Too bad didn't help.
Have you tried 'strace frozen-bubble'

Since it segfaults anyway, shouldn't be too awfully long. Just do 'strace frozen-bubble &> frozenbubble_strace.txt'
or something like that and maybe you can get a little more clue as to why it bombs out.

Don't worry, I've seen longer postings. You snipped it where you deemed appropriate. You don't seem to have a lot of perl problems, if you look closer you will see that it looks for different versions and with strace you will have some 'No such file or directory'. I started my frozen-bubble up and you seem to bomb out right after libpng tries to write something. My trace continues after that and is pretty close to yours until the point you segfault. So I did a check on libpng.so.3 and came up with:

I seem to have a more serious problem: there must be other programs which do not work after emerge.

I tried to emerge qtorrent just for fun, in order to see how it would behave with the python-dev libraries.
It seemed to emerge without errors, but it did not run.

I think I have done something bad, or did not install something important due to my ignorance.
I am going to study and work hard in order to get my Gentoo-box be perfect, one day.

Thank you for all your supprt, probably I will soon need your skills again. :wink:

I finally seem to have solved it.

It was a USE flags problem, in my opinion: after installing mplayer with all its set of new flags, I tried re-emerging it with the -D --newuse options.

It emerged other 5 packets and now it is finally, though with a very little glitch, running!

Oh, I am sorry for my completely useless question.
Things seem to have changed since I installed frozen-bubble: at that time there was a list of USE flags from where to pick up the right ones.

I have tested with an emerge -pv myself, but those flags have magically disappeared.

I do not remember the crucial ones, and even the equery uses command gives me no more flags... I am running amd64, and you?

Anyway, I think it is all a perl issue, in the sense that you both miss some perl packages.
