Could someone look at the thread https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-544792.html on ntpd failures? I think it has to do with the way the new kernel handles ntp functions (new kernel being 2.6.19-gentoo-r5 vs 2.6.18-gentoo-r6). The ntp functions were gathered from time.c and timer.c into ntp.c, and the default time status is now STA_UNSYNC (0x0040) which causes ntpd to immediately quit during startup. I think this is a different default error status returned by the new kernel and thus causing ntpd to fail.
Either the default kernel return status needs to be changed, or ntpd needs to be smarter in handling this condition. Could someone else look and comment?
Thanks! |
