Hello,

I have sound working in kde3, but cannot get any sound from my cdrom with a music disk in.

I have installed Mandrake, redhat, suse, and all work fine.
What can I change in gentoo to correct this?

Thanks

Do you have an audio cable going from the drive to your sound card?

So, I would guess the cable is there. Check your mixer settings, it might be muted or something.

I have read that other distros will play CDs without an audio cable.
Something about audio over the IDE channel I think.

If you get the cdread plugin for xmms, you can play music through the ide cable. You probably just don't have an audio cable. Windows doesn't use an audio cable, so most new manufactured systems don't include it.
to use the cdread plugin, go to load directory, and go to /dev/cdroms/cdrom0, or whatever yours is.
