Hi,

I'm trying to get portage to work on my Mac OS X 10.4.8 (dual core Intel) in order to try to get ebuilds work to build OpenCASCADE.

I found your excellent instructions from:

http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/gentoo-alt/prefix/bootstrap-macos.xml

I've tried to follow the instructions to the letter but I'm running in difficulties:

1) gawk install failed, when executing:

./bootstrap-prefix.sh $EPREFIX/tmp gawk

Results in listing 1 below

2) emerge bash failed when I executed

./bootstrap-prefix.sh $EPREFIX/tmp gawk

Results in listing 2 below

Can you help here or point me to somewhere where I could get/find help?

I've tried to do my homework but I've been now in this dependency loop (you need that to build that to fix this which you need to get those working which are required to build OpenCASCADE on Mac) for two weeks now and I'm a bit weary.

Not your problem though.

While on that subject, am I on the right track here as far as getting ebuilds to work on Mac OS? Your instructions seem pretty recent and thus I would presume they are not outdated.

Is ebuilds the way to go today to implement some easy to use ports of opensource software for Mac?

br Kusti
