Hello everyon! Before I say my question, I would like to say a few things. :) I'm new to this forum and Gentoo, and I really like this distro.

OK, now on to my question. I am not sure if this has already been asked here, so I will ask it. (I have searched the forums for similar questions, but none fit)

Is it possible to just install parts of OpenOffice.org? For example, if I just want to install Writer and Presenter and not any of the other things that come with OpenOffice, is there a way to only install these parts of OpenOffice? I was curious because I know the windows installer does allow the installation of only parts of OpenOffice.org.

Thanks in advance for the replies. :)

The code of openoffice is not modular by nature, so, when you compile it you will need to compile virtually everything to get -let's say- oowriter. Binary distros are different, since the program can be splitted into pieces once it is compiled, so, to pack each binary into a different package and the core in another one, is easy.

To make split ebuilds for the different oo components we would need to compile virtually all of openoffice -almost- to get each of the binaries, that would be a huge time waste. So, unless the code is modularized upstream, there is not much the gentoo devs can do. OO is a beast, and I doubt anyone will be wishing to dive into that huge amount of source code to manage to pack it into independent pieces, unless it is done upstream.
