Hi all,
When I emerge xorg-x11 on my Kurobox (ppc) it fails. I'm trying to get X running so that I can VNC into it headless.
Here are the errors:
localhost ~ # emerge xorg-x11
Calculating dependencies... done!
!!! Error: the >=x11-proto/xproto-7.0.6 package conflicts with another package;
!!! the two packages cannot be installed on the same system together.
!!! Please use 'emerge --pretend' to determine blockers.
For more information about Blocked Packages, please refer to the following
section of the Gentoo Linux x86 Handbook (architecture is irrelevant):
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml?full=1#blocked
and
localhost ~ # emerge -p xorg-x11
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:
Calculating dependencies... done!
[blocks B ] >=x11-proto/xproto-7.0.6 (is blocking x11-libs/libX11-1.0.1-r1)
xproto 7.0.6 does not even seem to exist in the portage tree. And is definitely not installed on my box.
Any ideas? |

i did uninstalled xproto but my computer had xproto-7.0.5 not xproto-7.0.6
# emerge --search xproto
* x11-proto/xproto
Latest version available: 7.0.7
Latest version installed: [ Not Installed ]
Size of files: 130 kB
Homepage: http://xorg.freedesktop.org/
Description: X.Org xproto protocol headers
License: xproto

I've got the same problem, when trying to USE="session" emerge php -uD
The problem seems to be the mechanism responsible for the installation of packages is not allowing a new package to enter the system because parts of that package already exist in another package within a different version on the system or a specific rule has been created which blocks new packages if certain packages are already installed.
If the package is uninstalled but is still reported as causing a block, then there must be a database, or file on the system which can be modified to allow removal of this package name.
Then package installation will be successful, the question is, where's this package manager database or lookup file? |
