WTF! Who cares if development is at a stand still. Users still enjoy the program for what it does and removing it from portage is, imo, an idiot move.

I was trying to follow the reasoning behind Diego Flameeyes and the other fag bags at the following link

http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.linux.gentoo.devel/43518

but apparently maintaining something that doesn't change is too much work for the idiots.

Ah... I got it. He's written an audio player for everyone to use!! Thats its.

...removing a useful app, HATS OFF and I GIVE YOU THE 'TOTAL IDIOT' AWARD!

I think applications provided through the official tree shall met the following requirements.

1) If a bug becomes public, that bug shall get fixed.
2) If a dependency gets updated in a way making incompatible with the application in question (e.g. a required library changes its interface), that application shall get updated.

XMMS does not met these requirements and hence was removed from the official tree (a correct decision I think).
Anyway, if you still want to have it, you can still get the ebuilds from gentoo's CVS (http://sources.gentoo.org/) and put them into a local overlay ... or is that to much work for you ;-)?

Cheers,

Sino

Hey,

calm down. If it is okay for you to use unmaintened Software ( Look at the bug list, then copy the ebuild to /usr/local/portage, or where ever you keep your local overlay.
I think it's a good idea to move forward and leave old buggy software behind, there are some great alternate players:
moc
amarok
audacious
gmusicbrowser

Greetings
Seb

Moved from Portage & Programming to Duplicate Threads.

[mod]echto, using such expressions about another user or dev in the forums, is grounds for banning your account. Please cool off. Moved to DT because this has already been discussed in topics "Whither XMMS? [SOLVED]" and "Is this a sign for things to come? [XMMS Removal]" and many other topics like them.[/mod]
